TYLER POINT GRILLE DESERVES A RETURN TRIP...

Sometimes I muse about what it is in a restaurant that would draw me back time and again.

It should be comfortable and welcoming, not stiffly formal. A buzz of conversation is good, but not a deafening din. For it to be more than a sometime thing, it should have good straightforward food, with inventive touches subtle enough that they don't overwhelm the food itself. And it shouldn't be priced in the birthday-and-anniversary-only league.

We found all that at the Tyler Point Grille, in a fine nautical neighborhood of marinas and the Barrington Yacht Club. And yes, I'd love to go back.

I can't imagine a more quintessential Rhode Island summer treat than heading to the marina, being engulfed in a salty breeze, listening to the chime of ropes slapping masts and watching the sun set between them. Actually I can. Imagine being able to savor the sights and sounds of all of the above while enjoying a fine contemporary Italian or seafood entree. At the TYLER POINT GRILLE in Barrington you can have it all!

Just over the Warren River Bridge in Barrington, beyond the boatyard, we discovered the TYLER POINT GRILLE. A wonderful find.

A well-developed menu with a thoughtful variety of pasta dishes, wood-grilled entees and oven-roasted selections was so inviting that we struggled with out choice. Our excellent, attentive waiter noticed our dilemma and accommodated us by describing and recommending fare throughout the menu...of course, prefacing his remarks with the fact that every dish is prepared to please.

We selected two pasta dishes, angel hair with lobster, pernod and saffron cream, and a special for the evening--shrimp over linguini w/olives, tomatoes, mushrooms and pea pods. Both dishes were stunning both in presentation and flavor. The combination of saffron and lobster was delightfully different and again the presentation was just as original. The shrimp over linguini was pleasantly mild, prepared with large, fresh shrimp and vegetables al dente.
